Restoration Part 2 (Engine Repair – Part 1) 【Toyota 2000GT – Episode 7】
This time, we're going to talk about the engine.
First we disassembled it by starting with removing the cylinder head.
Since the engine has been sitting idle for over 30 years, this doesn't look like it will be a straightforward job. We have our work cut out for us!

We can't help but worry if we can bring this engine back to life again.
However, I am sure that with all of the experience we've built up over the years, our goal is well within reach.
So, let's shake off the rust and get to work on restoring this engine!

As we go through taking the engine apart, we can just imagine how great it'll be to restore it to a shiny pristine condition.
Unfortunately, this was no time for day dreaming. Things did not go as smoothly as we had hoped.

We finally managed to remove the cylinder head from the cylinder block.
Hmm… something seems off with cylinder No.1.

What is this? It looks like oil and water mixed together in here. There is so much. We can't believe it. Has it been like this for 30 years? I doubt it. Maybe someone tried to get it up and running by trying DIY projects. Did they pour oil into the spark plug hole to get it to turn over?
If the engine had actually turned over, this amount of fluid could’ve triggered water hammer.

Kazuki-san carefully disassembled the cylinder head.

We removed the camshaft, tappet cover, and valve cotters.
We can see the valve springs.
Each valve is fitted with a pair of springs to prevent a surge.
And so, disassembling the engine is still a work in progress.
"Let's stop here and close up shop for tonight."
The next episode might not be about the engine, but we hope you'll continue to ride along with us on our journey.
