Restoration Part 3 (Frame Repair2) 【Toyota 2000GT – Episode 8】

This time, we’re continuing from our previous article, where we introduced the frame repair and bodywork.

In Episode 6, we cleaned the chassis, repaired the corroded areas, and reinforced the No.1 cross member.
Thanks to these efforts, the cross member is now less likely to deform when a jack is applied.
However, since deformation can’t be completely ruled out, please take proper safety precautions when using this area for jacking up the vehicle.

By the way, have you ever had trouble lifting the rear of a 2000GT with a garage jack?
This car doesn’t have a clearly defined jack point at the rear, which can make it hard to know where to place the jack.

The structure suggests that the car was originally designed to be lifted with a two-post lift.

Since we’ve repainted the frame this time, we’d like to keep it in this clean condition going forward.
Eventually, as shown in the photo above, the muffler pipe will run through the center of the frame, leaving very few safe spots for jacking.

To address this, we use a special support tool.
(As shown in the photo above,) this tool allows us to support the edge of the frame while avoiding the muffler pipe.
With this setup, we carefully jack up the vehicle.

The body painting has been completed

For those following us on Instagram, we’ve already shared this photo as a sneak peek.
As you can see from the finish, the paint job turned out beautifully.
In this post, we’d like to show you the freshly painted body.

The FR face almost looks like a living creature.
(Some might even say it resembles an axolotl!)
The surface is smooth and has a beautifully polished finish.

The subtle reflections on the curved surface of the rear quarter panel also look great.

We also repainted the interior, which had developed mold.
Since mold recurrence would be a problem, we’ve taken proper preventive measures.

From here on, we’ll gradually assemble each component, and the car will steadily move toward completion.
We’re really looking forward to the next steps.
