Restoration Part 3(Engine Repair2、Frame Repair3) 【Toyota 2000GT – Episode 9】

We’re moving on to the next stage—assembling parts onto the frame we introduced in the last update.

Little by little, car is starting to take shape. First up, the front suspension.
We’ve completely refreshed the ball joints and bushings, so the ride will feel crisp and solid.
The photo on the far right shows the rear section, where you can see the bracket for mounting the differential.

Now, let's continue with the engine repair.

For precision machining tasks like cylinder boring and surface grinding, we rely on our trusted partner, Kokuka Co., Ltd. They’ve been a huge help.

We already resurfaced the cylinder head, and the valves and valve stems are fully refreshed.
Next, we’ll carefully install the camshaft while checking clearances.

Here’s the cylinder block, machined and waiting for assembly.
We honed the cylinder walls, and the head mounting surface is polished and ready for the next step.

I still remember the oil pooled in the No.1 cylinder when we first removed the head…

But after boring, everything looks normal—likely just a human error rather than a mechanical issue.
No abnormalities were found in the cylinder head either.

Flip the block over you'll see the crankshaft is cleaned up and ready to go.

Check out these connecting rods. The big-end split isn't horizontal. That's a pretty rare sight to see!

Next, we’ll attach the pistons to the connecting rods and fit them into the cylinders.
The gaskets are all set and on standby. We're so close to finishing the engine!

We'd love to ride this momentum and finish the restoration all in one go…
But we have other projects going on in the shop, too.
You might see a new car featured in the next update. Stay tuned!
